New York estate law questions
What is a small estate in New York?
The firm’s own article says that if someone dies in New York without a will, and the probatable estate is $50,000 or less, a surviving relative can file a small estate administration petition with the Surrogate’s Court. Probatable assets are assets titled solely in the decedent’s name.
If the probatable estate is more than $50,000, the firm says an experienced estate lawyer is required. The consultation is free.
